Carry-On on Netflix: A Suspenseful Review for AvGeeks

Ryan Abramson recently reviewed Netflix’s latest action thriller, Carry-On, released on December 13, 2024.

I recently watched Netflix’s latest action thriller, Carry-On, which dropped just in time for the holiday season on December 13, 2024. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the film stars Taron Egerton as Ethan Kopek, a TSA officer caught up in a high-stakes terrorist plot on Christmas Eve. Jason Bateman plays the villainous Traveler, who forces Ethan to compromise airport security in exchange for the safety of his pregnant girlfriend, Nora, portrayed by Sofia Carson.

Let me start by saying I give Carry-On a solid 3 out of 5 thumbs up. While it doesn’t break any new ground in the action genre, it’s an entertaining watch that kept my attention from start to finish. If you’re an aviation geek (or “AvGeek”) like me, you’ll love the stunning views of the airport. The cinematography really captures the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles International Airport, adding an authentic backdrop to the storyline.

I also appreciated how the movie gave some credibility to TSA agents, showcasing their essential role in airport security. It was refreshing to see them portrayed as more than just background characters. That said, there were a few moments where the movie lost a bit of realism for me. The producers opted to use fictional airline names, which felt fake and took away from the authenticity. As someone who loves everything aviation-related, I think using real airlines could have added more depth.

Despite that, the action sequences were well done and felt grounded in reality. The plot, while following a standard action movie formula, was believable enough to keep me invested. It’s the kind of movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still delivers a thrilling experience.

Overall, Carry-On is a fun, engaging film that’s perfect for a cozy holiday movie night. It’s not a masterpiece, but if you’re looking for something entertaining with a bit of suspense, it’s worth a watch. Plus, for us AvGeeks, those airport scenes are a real treat.

Netflix has done a decent job with this one, and while it might not land in my all-time favorites, it’s a movie I’m glad I checked out. What are your thoughts on Carry-On? Let me know!
